Clearwater community concert and holiday baking benefits food bank

The annual Clearwater Community Concert and Food Bank Bake Sale fundraiser was an evening filled with tunes and treats.

The holiday Clearwater community concert sponsored by Wells Gray Lively Arts and the Clearwater and District Food Bank took place on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Dutch Lake Community Centre.

The evening of music was complimented by a wide array of baked goods available for sale to benefit the local food bank which included: homemade pies, carrot pudding, stollen, biscotti, tarts, fudge and an assortment of home baked treats created by volunteers from the Clearwater Food Bank baking team.

District of Clearwater councillor Ken Matheson was on hand to introduce the musical entertainers; Voices United Choir, local bands - Calliope, Incarnation, Trial and Error and friends who filled the decorated gymnasium with music throughout the evening.

Secretary for Wells Gray Lively Arts, Shirley Frost, said it was "wonderful" to be part of the Clearwater Christmas concert.

"We have some very talented musicians here in Clearwater - their performances last night ranged from the fantastic choir (Voices United Community Choir) to the rocky Trial and Error to the beautifully melodic Calliope. The Wells Gray Lively Arts Society was delighted to support this great fundraiser for our local food bank. We would also like to thank the Wells Gray Community Forest for their wonderful financial support with our new and much safer choir risers that saw their first use on Saturday evening."

Frost was also the choir director for the evening's performance, describing her role as "the lady waving the stick" and also said there were approximately 150 guests in the audience.

It was just one of many events taking place leading up to Christmas with donations and proceeds going towards the local food bank.

"Our community always comes together to support each other during times of need and this year we are seeing even more families visiting the food bank. We greatly appreciate the collective efforts of so many volunteers and local organizations who continually donate their time and resources to help during fundraising events like this wonderful concert and bake sale each year," said Clearwater and District Food Bank president, Margot Venema, who added, "Thank-you to one and all who participated in this enjoyable evening."
