Evergreen Acres Seniors Housing Society celebrated the grand opening of Larch Court, Cedar Place and Evergreen Seniors Centre on Friday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
The new Seniors Centre building is also home to North Thompson Arts Council art gallery, which is now showing ‘Arts Alive’ 2023 featuring beautiful paintings by local artists in the North Thompson.
During the grand opening event, local Evergreen residents, board members and guests including the District of Clearwater Mayor Merlin Blackwell, councillor Lynne Frizzle, and councillor Ken Matheson joined the afternoon celebrations to watch the ribbon cutting by resident, Ella Greffard, to the applause of those in attendance.
The new Evergreen Seniors Centre takes the place of the old common space in the original building which will eventually be converted into much needed office and storage space. Evergreen Chair, Pearl Broswick, said, “We are looking at renovating the former common space in the old building to accommodate additional meetings rooms, with the possibility of offering it to groups in the area on a rental basis. We are so pleased with the new centre, which is already being enjoyed by residents for yoga, fitness classes, indoor carpet bowling, meetings, and of course the beautiful display by the North Thompson ‘Arts Alive’ showing right now here by the Arts Council.”
The ribbon cutting was followed by a lovely afternoon of visiting inside the new centre, as guests enjoyed a large array of delicious baked goods and an assortment of sandwiches, veggie trays, coffee and tea.
The opening celebrates the completion of the projects on the additional housing of Larch Court and Cedar Place with the final formal launch of Evergreen Seniors Centre, a new hub to accommodate senior gatherings and the site of the North Thompson Art Gallery operated by the North Thompson Art Council members.
