Long-time Little Fort area resident Roy Tattersall was honoured on his 90th birthday during a special potluck at the Barriere Christian Life Assembly church on Nov. 26.
In a brief interview with Black Press, daughter Crystal Tattersall shared a bit of family history.
“My dad is a storyteller. He was a welder by trade when we lived in Northern Alberta. Our parents, Roy and Betty Tattersall, moved to B.C. in 1986 and bought the Rivermount Motel. Mom and Dad were always very giving, social people and have what I think of as a servant’s heart.”
Betty passed away a little over a year ago, but Roy still resides in their home across the road from the Rivermount Motel they owned for so many years.
“Dad had mentioned wanting a roast beef dinner for his birthday,” said Crystal. “Since we had a couple of birthdays coming up in our church around the same time, we decided to make it a special potluck, as 90 is a big deal to be honoured. My sister even drove out from Spruce Grove for his special day. He really enjoyed the celebration and was so happy to see everyone.”
The couple sold the Rivermount Motel in 1993 and got it back in 2000, selling it for the last time in 2013. It’s now owned by the owners of Mountain Springs Motel and Campground in Barriere. Roy continues to visit both Clearwater and Barriere friends.
“He’s a colourful character — like so many in the valley who love to socialize,” said Crystal.
