To the editor;
As the Christmas season approaches the Barriere & District Food Bank is stirring with a renewed energy as food bank users register through the month of November for their special Christmas dinner hamper.
Activity will burst into high gear come December.
The monthly regular hampers are available the first two Wednesdays on Dec. 1 and 8. Distribution of gifts for children/teens and their families’ Christmas hampers will occur on Dec. 14. All other Christmas hampers will go out on Dec. 15. We hope to include a personal hygiene bag for each household with the Christmas hampers.
Most of the hardworking food bank volunteers will rest and enjoy the Christmas holidays. The food bank will be open for pick up only on Dec. 29 with regular services resuming on Jan. 5. Telephone and electronic messages will be checked through out the holiday season. Our contact number is: 250-672-0029.
Many fundraising community events are underway in support of these food bank services. Individuals, business and community groups initiate each year ongoing and new creative events.
Please consider contributing by buying a gift pack for a Christmas hamper at AG Foods, donating to the “Stuff the Cruiser” event at the Barriere Chmaber of Commerce parking lot on Dec. 3, from 8 p.m. to 7 p.m., or dropping a gift into Nikki’s Red Wagon at the Interior Savings Insurance office.
You can also bring personal hygiene items or knitting or crochet gifts for kids and adults to the Interior Savings Credit Union, or drop in at the Station House and support their efforts.
These are only a few examples of the events we know are happening.
Donations can also be made to the food bank through the Post Office, pay-pal, e-Transer, in cash donation boxes at businesses, and by being dropped off at the Food Bank on Wednesday while we are open, or arrange another day at the food bank by appointment.
The CBC telethon provides another means that you can donate to your home community food bank.
The food bank is a vehicle for all community members to express generosity and to ensure a Merry Christmas for all.
Thank you all.
From the Board of Directors,
Barriere & District Food Bank
