It's a sure sign of spring when the annual water restrictions come into place in the District of Sicamous, as is now the case.

Stage 1 water restrictions came into effect May 1, as per the bylaw, and will remain in effect until Sept. 30 to manage usage during the driest months.

"These restrictions help ensure our water reservoirs stay at safe levels," the district said in a notice on its website. "And that we have the supply we need during peak summer months."

In Stage 1 restrictions, residents with odd-numbered addresses can use sprinklers and irrigation on odd-numbered days, and on the flip side, even addresses can sprinkle and irrigate on even days. The district has four levels of water restrictions, with the others implemented as necessary throughout the summer.

The district warns that a property owner could have their water service "turned off or disconnected if they are in violation of water regulation, zoning or business bylaws," and that it's illegal to meddle or tamper with district property relating to the water system. Additionally, restrictions don't apply to agriculture, fire protection, sports fields, cemeteries and spray parks.
