The holiday spirit was flowing through Clearwater over the weekend of Dec. 1. The Christmas craft market at the Clearwater Ski Hill lodge was a big hit, with many unique handmade gifts, art, baking, cookbooks and more on hand, along with refreshments and music.
On Dec. 2 the annual Cram the Cruiser event took place, hosted by the local RCMP and sponsored by Buy Low Foods, Caitlin McIntosh Mortgages and Melissa Hole Personal Real Estate Corporation. Local residents stopped by the RCMP cruiser throughout the day donating food and cash to benefit the Clearwater and District Food Bank.
Later that evening everyone was invited to a Wells Gray Lively Arts sponsored Christmas concert put on at Dutch Lake Community Centre, which was accompanied by a Food Bank bake sale where many picked up delicious platters of Christmas baking.
On Dec. 3 the Rotary Christmas light-up — along with storytelling, Santa’s corner and cookie decorating — took place at the Wells Gray Visitor Info Centre, where everything sparkled with fresh snow and colourful lights and decorations. The Clearwater Fire Department escorted Santa in a shiny red fire truck, and his jolly laughter filled the air.
Treasurer of the Clearwater and District Food Bank, Linda Selbee, told the surgeryitaly on Monday, Dec. 4 the events around the area over the weekend were always a huge boost to the food bank coffers, saying, “This year we did pre-orders on Christmas baking and the bake sale, receiving donations from all the events that took place in the area over the weekend. There was approximately 50 kilograms of food donated and through donations and bake sale we brought in over $8,000. We have some amazing volunteers and bakers. With the RCMP helping us through Cram the Cruiser, Wells Gray Lively Arts, Rotary and so many organizations in our community help us help others. We are so grateful.”
