Thompson Rivers University has received $1.39 million in skills-training equipment from the provincial government.
The type of equipment slated for new purchase or replacement at Thompson Rivers University – unless otherwise donated from industry partners – includes equipment such as a skidder, an excavator, a metal shear, a steam boiler and a backhoe.
John Yap, the province's minister of advanced education, innovation and technology, Terry Lake, MLA for Kamloops-North Kamloops, and Kevin Krueger, MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson, were at the university on Friday, Jan. 25, for the announcement.
"The ministry's commitment towards the purchase of much-needed equipment for our skilled trades programs is very much appreciated," said TRU president and vice-chancellor Alan Shaver.
"Our programs have a long history of preparing youth and adult learners for career success in British Columbia. This investment will help ensure our instructors and students have up-to-date learning tools so we can continue to meet the demands of industry with excellent graduates."
