Career Centre in Parksville is on the move to new location

Commercial-residential building West Wave will serve as new home

The Career Centre in Parksville is relocating effective July 2.

The home of the centre, an initiative of the Central Vancouver Island Job Opportunities Building Society, will be in the new commercial-residential building called West Wave, located at 3 – 187 Bagshaw St.

According to a press release, this move marks a significant milestone for the Career Centre after almost 50 years of delivering employment-related services to everyone of working age in the Oceanside region. Helping individuals find meaningful employment, through skill-enhancement initiatives, and supporting employers with recruitment activities is part of its mandate. With upgraded technology, ample parking and a larger footprint, this intentionally designed space will support growth and a commitment to enhancing the job seeker and employer experience.

“Our new workspace at WestWave offers the perfect blend of modern infrastructure, accessibility, and room for continued expansion,” said Cheryl Dill, executive director. “Creating a beautiful, functional workspace ideal for staff, employers and job seekers was our goal. The community is welcome to visit and we look forward to delivering employment services in this purposeful environment.”

Keeping inclusion and accessibility paramount, the designers (dhk Architects, Karly Parker Design) and builder (Three Dog Ventures) have created a fully accessible centre honouring the Rick Hansen Foundation motto “Everyone, Everywhere”.

The centre team will ensure operations continue seamlessly throughout the transition. Individuals can expect the same friendly level of service, now with even greater accessibility in the heart of Parksville. Staff are planning a grand opening for September, a month identified provincially for celebrating disabilities and employment.
