A ceremony in front of Vernon's City Hall will take place on Monday, April 28 to observe the National Day of Mourning.
The National Day of Mourning honours workers who have been killed, injured, or suffered illness as a result of work-related incidents.
The ceremony, from 10:30- 11:15 a.m., will include comments from the province, Vernon, WorkSafe B.C., RCMP, Fire Rescue and CUPE Local 626.
According to WorkSafe B.C., 146 workers in the province died from a workplace injury or disease last year. The workers in the fields of construction, manufacturing, forestry and health care are most at risk.
“The national Day of Mourning on April 28 is a chance to honour and remember the 146 workers in British Columbia who lost their lives last year due to workplace injury or disease," said WorkSafeBC head of prevention services Todd McDonald. "It is a day to reflect on those we’ve lost, and to renew our commitment to creating healthy and safe workplaces for everyone,”
