Clearwater RCMP responded to 23 calls for service this past week.

On April 9, 2025 at 5:39 a.m. Clearwater RCMP received a request for assistance from Emergency Health Services B.C. at the scene of a single vehicle Motor Vehicle Incident (MVI). Sgt. Grant Simpson, detachment commander for the Clearwater RCMP reported that a Grey 2013 Chev Silverado had driven off road left and down a steep 50 foot embankment.

"I attended the scene and learned that the driver and passenger were able to self-extricate and call 911. The passenger, a 60-year-old male from Newfoundland, and grandfather of the driver, had received lacerations to his head and face that required stitches. His grandson, a 20-year-old Abbotsford man, was driving and appeared to have dozed off as he failed to negotiate a gradual right curve On Highway 5 just south of Holland Road going straight, and off road left and down the embankment with no signs of braking.”

Photos were obtained of the scene and an accident report completed and emailed to ICBC, noted Simpson, adding a violation ticket was issued to the driver for No Insurance contrary to Sec. 24(3)(b) of the Motor Vehicle Act. Both the driver and passenger were taken to Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital for minor medical attention.

On Friday, April 11, at 7:08 a.m., Clearwater RCMP received a call from a local woman advising a business located in the 200 block of Glen Road was broken into sometime overnight and the door was smashed out.

“The business owner across the street called minutes later advising the same and that $5 bills were located on the ground outside. Const. Van Woudenberg and Const. Maibauer attended and took photos, and seized the loose cash. The store owner was contacted and attended. Loose currency was returned directly to her," said Simpson. A forensic identification member attended and processed the scene.

Video surveillance with male seen entering video frame at approximately 2:30 a.m. will be reviewed and distributed for identification purposes, Simpson said.

Anyone with any information in regards to this incident is asked to contact the police or Crimestoppers, should they wish to remain anonymous.

“On April 13, at 12:59 a.m. a 21-year-old male from Germany called 911 requesting an ambulance at an address in the 5900 block of Angus Horne St. in Blue River," Simpson said. "It was reported that a 23-year-old German tourist, was intoxicated and being aggressive toward others. He had been drinking for the first time and was vomiting non-stop. Emergency Health Services was staged and would not move in unless police ensured the scene was safe. Another caller reported Emergency Health Services was required, not police. Cpl. Meyer drove 60 kilometres north, then the male's mother called reporting that her son was now seizing. Emergency Health Service risk managed the situation, moved in and treated the male.” Police were eventually advised to stand down.
