Clearwater RCMP responded to 36 calls for service this past week.

Sgt. Grant Simpson, detachment commander for the Clearwater RCMP reports that on April 21 Clearwater RCMP were advised a semi-truck had collided with an eagle on Highway 5 near Vavenby Bridge Road. Constables Maibauer and Van Woudenberg attended.

“Dispatch advised that the driver, an Abbotsford male had only minor injuries and had been able to call a tow truck through his own dispatch," said Simpson, noting 911 dispatch advised that BC Emergency Health Services was already notified.

Upon arrival the constables observed BCEHS was already on scene.  The driver was transported to the hospital by ambulance for possible glass down his throat, Simpson said.

The tractor and trailer were moved to a safe location well clear of the highway on a dirt road pull out. The windshield of the tractor was damaged, of which photos were taken and attached to file.

Simpson said a search for the unfortunate eagle was negative.

On Thursday, April 25 at 10:25 p.m., Clearwater RCMP received a call from BCEHS to assist with a vehicle versus moose in Blue River.

The collision occurred approximately five kilometres north of Blue River on Highway 5.

“BC Conservation Service and RCMP attended," Simpson said, noting the driver was located at a hotel in Blue River where he had limped his van to after the collision. The male driver and his female passenger were uninjured apart from being sore. The driver was advised not to drive the van any further due to extensive damage.

Const. Maibauer and Const.Van Woudenberg attended with the conservation officer to the location of the collision where Conservation dispatched the injured moose. Highway maintenance was on scene to deal with the clean up. Photos were added to file and an accident report was completed and emailed to ICBC for insurance purposes.

Simpson reports also on April 25 Clearwater RCMP received a call for service from a staff member at a local store in Clearwater. The complainant advised approximately 20 minutes prior, two Caucasian females had left the store with several items without paying. The items included a beach bag, reading glasses, and several items of clothing. The total value of the stolen items was about $100.00 Canadian.

“The females were described as blonde, both wearing a lot of make-up and very heavy perfume," Simpson said, adding the suspect one was seen on CCTV wearing a black baseball cap, black spaghetti strap top, grey pants, and black fabric boots with a small tattoo on her right shoulder blade, while suspect two was seen on CCTV wearing a black dress and large black hat and black leather ankle boots with a yellow backpack.

Clearwater RCMP attended and viewed a picture taken by the complainant.

"It showed a grey coloured Ford pick-up truck with raised suspension with neon green struts, a damaged and taped up passenger side mirror and no front license plate," Simpson said.

A CCTV from inside the store was obtained and patrols were negative at the time.

Simpson said two days later, however, on April 27, the females returned to the store with the same truck which was later located at a nearby residence. The females, located therein, were arrested for Possession of Stolen Property. They were provided their charter rights and police caution and released on undertakings with conditions not to return to the store. Various recovered stolen items were seized and photographed along with other corroborating evidence. This matter remains under investigation.
